Welcoming New Providers to our Plattsburgh and Champlain Health Centers
Hudson Headwaters Health Network Adds Five Primary Care Providers to Health Centers in Plattsburgh and Champlain
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (July 30, 2019) – Hudson Headwaters Health Network is adding four primary care physicians, along with a nurse practitioner, to its North Country staff.
The providers will be launching their practices throughout this summer and early fall at both Champlain Family Health on Route 11 in Champlain and the recently constructed Plattsburgh Family Health, located in the CVPH Health Plaza.
Ashley Bernotas, MD, and David Ellsworth, DO, will be establishing their practices at Plattsburgh Family Health, along with Family Nurse Practitioner Suzanne LaBorde, Aaron Esterson, MD, and Stephen Winfield MD, will divide their schedules between Champlain Family Health and Plattsburgh Family Health.
Three of the new physicians recently completed their residency at the University of Vermont Health Network – Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) Family Medicine Residency Program after completing medical school. The physicians comprise the program’s first group of medical residents. The program was created to provide medical school graduates with the opportunity to complete their final stage of training within the local region.
According to Tucker Slingerland, MD, CEO of Hudson Headwaters, there are many opportunities for physicians who choose to live and work in our rural communities. “Hudson Headwaters is proud that these physicians have decided to remain in our region and work with our organization to help continue our mission of providing the best care and access to that care for everyone in our communities. CVPH offers medical program graduates the opportunity to complete their residency and establish careers within our region; with an eye to the future – hoping that they will eventually choose to stay in our area once their residency is complete, which is exactly what has happened with these three physicians,” he commented.
Ashely Bernotas, who is originally from Toronto, Canada, attended McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario and graduated from the American University of Antigua College of Medicine before completing her residency in Plattsburgh. David Ellsworth, who is originally from Plattsburgh, attended the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania, after completing his undergraduate degree at Siena College in Loudonville, NY. He completed his internal medicine residency at Reading Hospital and Medical Center in Reading, PA.
Aaron Esterson attended McGill University in Montreal, Canada and St. Gorge’s University School of Medicine, before being accepted into the CVPH Family Practice Residency; and Stephen Winfield attended the Saba University School of Medicine after completing his undergraduate education at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada. Dr. Winfield also completed his residency at CVPH.
Nurse Practitioner Suzanne LaBorde completed her Master of Science in Nursing at Frontier Nursing University in Kentucky after completing her Bachelor of Science in nursing at SUNY Plattsburgh.
Hudson Headwaters Health Network locations offer comprehensive primary care for all ages, from newborns to teens, adults to retirees – including women’s health, integrated behavioral health and social work support. The health centers in Plattsburgh and Champlain have been developed in close partnership with CVPH. The location and design of the health centers ensure that they are located adjacent to other health services provided by the hospital, including lab and radiology, for the convenience of patients.
